Marking her first engagement of the 2018-19 season, Guanqun Yu returns to the Opernhaus Zürich to reprise her signature role of Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème. Ms. Yu has been associated with the Opernhaus Zürich since her debut in 2015 as Mimì in Ole Anders Tandberg’s new production, opposite the renowned tenors Benjamin Bernheim and Michael Fabiano as Rodolfo.

Ms. Yu returns to the star as Mimì in Anders Tandberg’s production with performances on September 29 & October 5, 7, 11 & 14. Speranza Scappucci conducts the Philharmonia Zürich and a sparkling cast including Benjamin Bernheim as Rodolfo (David Junghoon Kim on Oct 5 & 7), Yuriy Yurchuk as Marcello, Huw Montague Rendall as Schaunard, Stanislav Vorobyov as Colline, Georgia Jarman as Musetta, and Pavel Daniluk as Benoît.

Previous critical acclaim as Mimì at Opernhaus Zürich:

“Guanqun Yu has that rare combination of fragility, both vocal and physical, that can rise over Puccini’s orchestration. She is a lovely Mimi.” (Seen and Heard International)

“A singing discovery is the Mimì of the Chinese soprano Guanqun Yu, who makes her debut in Zurich with it. Her voice can turn up powerfully if necessary, as in the third picture, for example, but in the death scene of the fourth act she proves that she is also a master of sound reduction. In addition, she has an irresistible charisma based on unaffected naturalness.” (Neue Zürcher Zeitung)
