Beginning the New Year, Guanqun Yu returns to the Teatro Comunale di Bologna to star as Leonora in a new production of Verdi’s Il Trovatore. As a young artist, Ms. Wu was a member of the opera studio at Teatro Comunale di Bologna in 2008. She has since wowed audiences with her interpretations of this Verdi heroine, earning acclaim for her highly celebrated debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Leonora:

“It was an excellently sung, impressively assured performance. Ms. Yu’s voice has silvery focus with a dark patina; it soared over the ensemble that ends Act II. … Singing both verses of her fourth-act cabaletta with fiery accuracy — a challenge even for more experienced singers — Ms. Yu conveyed a startling intimacy in the huge Met, as if you were peering into Leonora’s fevered thoughts.” (The New York Times)

On January 22, 24 & 27, Pinchas Steinberg will conduct Robert Wilsons new production at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Ms. Wu will share the stage with esteemed colleagues including Dario Solari as Count di Luna, Nino Surguladze as Azucena, Riccardo Massi as Manrico, and Marco Spotti as Ferrando.
